There’s something magical about stepping out from behind the screen and into a room full of people who share your passion. I recently had the amazing opportunity to attend an event for future teachers where I got to talk about my teacher experiences in and out of the traditional classroom. I was also able to present and sell my self-published books and motivational planners for the very first time. 🎉

In my latest video, I walk you through the entire experience—from unboxing fun table setup goodies to chatting with current educators and sharing advice from my own teacher journey. But I also learned a lot in the process—so today I’m passing on some practical tips to help you feel confident and prepared when it’s your turn to shine at your next event!
1. Know Your Audience—And Speak Directly to Them
Since this event was for pre-service teachers, I tailored my messaging and materials to meet them where they are: eager, nervous, and looking for inspiration. I displayed resources that support new teachers. My motivational planners were the perfect fit for this event but other elements such as helpful pamphlets, positive affirmations stickers or posters would also have great appeal.
Tip: Think about your audience’s needs and emotions. Then ask yourself, “How can my products help them right now?”
2. Curate a Warm + Inviting Table Setup
Creating a welcoming vibe is key! I used a combination of pastel and more saturated colors as well as small touches that reflected the heart of Estrella Brillante—like stars, cozy textures, and color branded signs. For a larger booth, I would have used more vertical space by having shelf organizers to display my books and a solid backdrop with some lights to reflect my star theme to all who visit.
Tip: Your booth should feel like a reflection of your brand. Use colors, textures, and props that create an experience—not just a display. You want your message to make a memorable and lasting impact on those who approach your table or booth.
3. Bring Extra (But Purposeful) Supplies
In my haul/unboxing segment, I show you all the cute and helpful pieces I packed—from tablecloths and book displays to easels and business cards. One thing I wish I brought more of? QR code signage for my website and/or social media!
Tip: Do a mock setup at home so you can see what’s missing. Don’t forget extra pens, cash/change (I did only digital transactions), bags, and a way to collect emails or Instagram handles (perhaps a small notebook).
4. Practice Your “Why”
I had a chance to talk with in-service teachers at the event, and it reminded me how powerful our stories can be. Sharing why I created my books and how my experience as an educator shaped them made my role there even more meaningful.
Tip: Practice a 1-minute version of your story—the heart behind your work. People love to support creators with purpose! There’s only one unique and amazing you so let that shine through your words and actions.
5. Document the Experience
This event was a milestone in my journey as a teacherpreneur and self-published author, and I’m so glad it was captured on video! Sharing it not only helps others—it also helped me reflect and grow. I can now keep track of what worked well and improve upon my next speaking opportunity/book selling event.
Tip: Take pics and videos of your setup, your interactions, and your reflections afterward. You never know how inspiring it might be for someone else! Also, have someone there whether family member or friend to help you film these amazing moments for you so you can totally be in the moment and fully engaged with the people that have made the time to come up to your table/booth.
Final Thoughts
Your first event can feel both exciting and intimidating—but it’s also an incredible opportunity to connect, learn, and grow. After months of working in front of a computer screen, talking to people about my books was a full-circle moment for me. Whether you’re a fellow educator, author, or creative, I hope these tips (and my video!) encourage you to just go for it and reach your ultimate goal and dream.
And remember: Your light is meant to be shared. Let it shine brightly. 💫
